The 2026 Padel World Cup will take place from 2 to 7 November in Doha, Qatar. As the competition approaches, Argentina has announced a men’s squad of eight players, according to the list published by Mundo Deportivo on 7 October. The absence of Juan Tello, who was called up for the previous edition, is one of the selection’s notable features.
The Argentina squad reported by Mundo Deportivo
The announced squad includes Agus Tapia, Fede Chingotto, Leo Augsburger, Franco Stupaczuk, Martín Di Nenno, Maxi Arce, Tino Libaak and Gonza Alfonso. Argentina will approach the tournament aiming to defend its title, the Spanish outlet reports.
Gonza Alfonso and Maxi Arce are the two new faces compared with the 2024 squad. Sanyo Gutiérrez and Álex Chozas, who were in that squad, have not been selected this time.
The International Padel Federation (FIP) also announced on 8 October that Tino Libaak and Gonza Alfonso had been selected. Its article confirms these two call-ups but does not give the full list of eight players. The complete squad listed here is the one reported by Mundo Deportivo.
Juan Tello disappointed, but backs the selected players
Juan Tello is not included in the list reported by Mundo Deportivo. In an Instagram story reproduced by the outlet on 7 October, the player expressed his sadness and said he believes he is good enough to compete at the World Cup. He added that the selected players deserve their places and congratulated Maxi Arce, his partner, in particular.
His absence in 2026 differs from that at the previous World Cup. According to Mundo Deportivo, Tello had been called up for that edition but withdrew because of the birth of his second child. This time, he was not selected.
The reasons for the selections have not been detailed
The available sources do not report any official explanation from the selectors for their choices. Mundo Deportivo mentions Gonza Alfonso’s recent performances, but does not present this as an officially stated reason. It is therefore not possible to establish precisely why Tello or other players were not selected.
Less than a month before the tournament begins, the announcement sets out the Argentina squad reported by the press, but the pairs who will represent the country in Doha are not specified in the available information.
